“2 Rodas: Agrerre-se à Vida” campaign will inspect motorbikes from Tuesday

“2 Rodas: Agrerre-se à Vida” campaign will inspect motorbikes from Tuesday

This is the seventh of 11 awareness and inspection campaigns planned for this year within the scope of the National Inspection Plan (PNF) and is launched in partnership by the Public Security Police ( PSP ), the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) and the National Republican Guard ( GNR ).

This year the road safety campaign runs until next Monday.

In a statement, the authorities said that the campaign aims to alert drivers of two-wheeled motor vehicles to drive safely, complying with the rules of the Highway Code and avoiding risky behavior such as driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and incorrect use of safety devices.

The campaign includes awareness-raising actions by ANSR throughout the territory, as well as inspection operations by PSP and GNR, especially on roads and access points with high traffic flow.

Authorities warn that motorcycle and moped users, when involved in road accidents, have a higher risk of suffering serious consequences than people traveling in other vehicles.

“This risk is due to their vulnerability as they do not have the protection of the passenger compartment,” reads the statement.

The use of an approved helmet, “properly tightened and adjusted, reduces the risk of death in the event of an accident by 40%”, they add.

The use of other protective equipment is also recommended, namely gloves, boots, jackets with protectors, trousers with CE protection and airbags , as this “helps to reduce the severity of the consequences in the event of an accident”.

“Road accidents do not constitute fatalities and their most serious consequences can be avoided by adopting safe behavior on the road,” they emphasize.
